February 2009.

Next club meeting Monday 1st March 2009.

Meetings are held at the Abbey Baptist Church, Abbey Square, commencing at 7.00 p.m.

February Meeting

For the first time ever a meeting of Reading Coin Club was cancelled, due to the ice and snow. Almost all of the members were informed in time and the meeting was rearranged at short notice for the 16th February. Many thanks, to the nineteen members who turned up at short notice for a successful auction.

The last meeting was the annual club auction, with some 121 lots realising £424.70. A total of £64.88 was raised for Club funds by a combination of commission and donations.

There was an excellent turnout of 24 members, 121 lots were offered starting off with 2 Celtic coins each of which made £26. The same price was achieved by a Scottish Merk, while a Scottish Bawbee made £20. Surprise of the sale was an 1897 medalet which opened at £3 and was briskly bid up to £15.50 before the hammer fell. Overall, despite fewer lots than usual, a successful sale for the Club (thanks in part to a number of lots donated for club funds),  for the vendors and for the buyers.

Skittles evening

We have a date of 19th April for the skittles evening at the Red Lion at Theale. The cost will be the same as last year, £15 a head. We will be collecting fees in advance at the forthcoming meetings.
